How to Grow a Garden

Sowing seeds is an essential step in your gardening process. If you don’t sow your seeds properly, you won’t HAVE a garden. It is as simple as that, so learning to sow seeds properly will benefit you in the long run.

So what is a seed exactly? In essence, it is a plant ovule that when ripened, contains an embryo. There are literally a ton of veggies, flowers, and fruits that can be planted to create your garden. Some good summer vegetable seeds are things like carrots, spinach, beets, cucumbers, pumpkins, and many others.

Also flowers like morning glories, cosmos, and sunflowers, etc grow exceptionally well in warm climates.

Of course, many when sowing seeds would like to create their own herb garden. Herbs can create a healthy environment, and usually when blooming attract insects, hummingbirds, and butterflies. In most cases, chemical fertilizers aren’t necessary to grow herbs. Also, keep in mind that herbs are best enjoyed when freshly picked, so that makes it quite a popular choice of plants for most gardens.

So how do we go about sowing our little seeds? Well a simple method, that is the most basic, is using good quality compost, that hasn’t been stored in a cold location. Choose goods seeds, that are fresh. If they are slightly shriveled, you could try soaking them for a bit in water before planting them.

Then, simply tuck them into the soil, a bit of space between them, and then lightly cover them with a fine layer of compost. Basically, the essential requirements of successful sowing is water, nutrients, and the right temperatures.

Sowing seeds outside you typically sow in rows, although if you are attempting to grow a flower garden, you may want to shake that method up a bit. The best way to sow is in a way that makes tending them easy for you, whether that is in rows, squares, or loop de loops!

Sowing seeds properly can yield you a beautiful and fruitful garden, that can provide you with hours of peace and pleasure.
