Garden Planning- Where To Start?
Tending a garden can be an enjoyable past time for many folks, as well as a relaxing hobby. However, no project should be started with out proper garden planning first. Garden planning is a bit like an artist painting a picture. You map out what you want in your mind, and then go about making it a reality. When the reality is complete, often times it expresses your own personality and flair, just like any other art form.
So what are some things to consider when garden planning? Well firstly, you need to decide what type of garden you want, or what kind of plants you want to grow. Do you want a flower garden, a veggie garden, or an herb garden… some folks even like to create rock gardens! Or do you want to create a blend of those? Once you decide what KIND of garden you’d like to create, you can plan how you want to go about it.
For instance, would you rather do traditional in ground gardening? Maybe you have a small plot of land roped off out back for just such a purpose! Or maybe you live in the city, and would like to try the newer square foot gardening method, or create a small window box garden. The choice is yours, you are the one doing the garden planning. Just remember to choose a method that will be easy for you to implement and that creates a garden you will be able to take care of regularly.
Another thing to consider when garden planning, is choosing a nice area with good sunlight to let your plants grow in. Unless you are doing traditional in ground gardening, good soil isn’t too big of a factor, as you can purchase fertilizer to make your soil more nutrient rich.
The main thing to keep in mind when garden planning, is to choose a type of garden that will bring you pleasure. Whether it is growing beautiful flowers to feast your eyes on, or growing delicious veggies for your belly to feast on, plan a garden that is right for you, that will bring you joy. Garden planning should be fun, not viewed as work!
